Each year, 240,000 American men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Traditionally, a biopsy is done to test whether or not an individual has cancer by testing a small, indiscriminate piece of the prostate. A new method for the detection of prostate cancer allows greater accuracy in the detection of prostate cancer. By using MRI images, an ultrasound, and a probe, urologists can now target and test areas of interest in their patients’ prostates. This new technique has already proven helpful in difficult cases.
