A study recently published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings shows that African Americans have a lower survival rate compared to Caucasians, but they also have the lowest survival rate compared to other minority groups. The clinical and demographic variables between African Americans and other ethnicity groups were consistent in the study, but African Americans still had a lower survival rate. The researchers in this study suggest that post treatment factors may be what causes the discrepancy in survival rates. More research will be done in order to analyze which post operation treatments contribute to survival rates.
