Hardships explain much of hospital asthma readmissions among black children, teens

A study conducted by researchers at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center found that African American children with asthma were more likely to be readmitted within a year compared to their counterparts in other ethnicity groups, especially Caucasians. Researchers suggest that the readmission disparity may be due in part by financial and social hardships. Readmission rates are a central focus of healthcare reform, therefore it will be necessary to improve clinical practice to decrease this disparity.
