Study shows disparities in cancer death rates

A new study shows reveals a racial disparity in the cancer death rate. Simply put, African-Americans have a higher mortality death rate when compared to Caucasians with the same stage of disease. Using 503 patients from African American and Caucasian ethnicities, researchers discovered African Americans are more likely to have right-sided colon cancer as compared to Caucasians. This finding is of particular interest because right-sided colon cancer is difficult to detect and treat. Although the rate and number of cancer deaths for African-Americans has decreased in recent years, blacks still continue to have the highest cancer death rate in the world.
